NTT INDYCAR SERIES: Myles Rowe Secures First INDY NXT Win, First By Black Driver in Series

NEWTON, Iowa — Myles Rowe, who began his racing journey in go-karting, has made history as the first Black driver to win an INDY NXT Series race. He achieved this milestone by clinching the 75-lap event on Saturday at Iowa Speedway.
Rowe overtook series points leader Dennis Hauger with just 14 laps to go, finishing with a lead of over a second on the 0.894-mile oval gcash slot machine. Back in August 2021, Rowe became the first Black driver to secure a victory in any INDYCAR-sanctioned race when he won at New Jersey Motorsports Park in the USF2000 Series. “I’m super proud to be able to represent and to be winning now and be up front,” Rowe stated. “It’s super crucial to see someone who looks like you doing well, someone to look up to. Especially when you’re younger, everything feels larger and seems more daunting, especially in motorsports.”
The past 18 months have not been without challenges, as Rowe has navigated his ascent on the INDYCAR ladder, entering the INDY NXT Series in 2024. The 25-year-old Rowe hails from Georgia but resides in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from Pace University in 2022 with a degree in film and screen studies.
